What is Surviving Covid NINETEEN about?

Surviving Covid NINETEEN is a short film that speaks to the greater underlying issue which infected our performing arts population during a global pandemic- depression, loss of purpose, and isolation. A population that has spent decades of their lives to bring entertainment to the masses suddenly find themselves without purpose and even a way to sustain their livelihood. With no way to pay rent or buy food- many found themselves moving back in with their parents and turning their back on a life now deemed 'non-essential'. Self harm, suicidal thoughts, and deprivation is now their new reality left to navigate with no end in sight.

Two sisters who have spent their entire lives dancing suddenly find themselves with no space to train or perform and find themselves struggling to find purpose and even an identity again due to a global pandemic which has shut down the world they knew and loved. Now confined to the space within their home- they are left to figure out their new reality all the while battling psychotic breaks and depression.

THE DIRECTOR: Kasey Viani
About the director: 
Kasey has been in the performing arts for over 42 years as a professional dancer, singer, actor, director, choreographer and teacher. Her venture into filmmaking was purely accidental and a direct result of the global pandemic COVID-19. With stages and theater houses shut down, Kasey found a new way to provide a stage to her students by putting their stories on film. Kasey's actors in this film are actually her current dance students. With a love for photography,  suddenly beautiful dance angles turned into an entire short film addressing an underground pandemic issue. This is her first film of many and excited to continue on her new venture of filmmaking.
